Monologue Festival 'Techniqa"
Natyadarpan’s Monologue Festival, ‘Techniqa,’ held on September 10th at the Chandler Theatre in Keysborough, Melbourne, was a showcase of raw talent and personal storytelling. Twelve exceptionally gifted performers took their first-ever solo flights onto the stage, delivering monologues that they had crafted and improvised during the Techniqa workshops:
Pushkar Paradkar’s monologue was a heartfelt ode to his deep interest in plants, trees, and forests, sharing his passion with the audience.
Purnima Dhillon presented a compelling story that delved into the rituals performed during “Shradh,” with characters including an elderly mother, her son, daughter-in-law, and priests.
Ashita brought her mother Purnima Dhillon’s story, “Cancer,” to life on stage, portraying the emotional journey of a family when the mother is diagnosed with cancer and financial challenges arise.
Supreet Chadha’s monologue touched upon the eternal bond between a father and daughter, delivering a poignant and relatable narrative.
Mehak Mahajan tackled the deeply rooted gender stereotypes that often force women to forget their own identities, sparking an important conversation.
Naman portrayed the story of a helpless Samaritan who faced indifference from corrupt elements in society when he tried to help a poor accident victim.
Vaibhav delved into the rarely discussed challenges of an artist’s life burdened by societal expectations.
Rujuta enacted a spirited conversation between friends planning a mutual friend’s birthday, exploring different behavior traits and coordination dynamics.
Gurveen’s monologue explored the pervasive impact of technology on modern life, highlighting how it has become almost impossible to live without it.
Gauri Tikekar shared a heartfelt childhood story centered around an old cupboard, invoking nostalgia and relatability.
Nirankar Singh delivered a stand-up comedy act that humorously contrasted modern-day life and values with those of the 80s and 90s, highlighting the profound changes that have occurred over the past two decades.
Techniqa provided a platform for these talented performers to showcase their unique voices and narratives, leaving the audience both entertained and deeply moved by their stories. It was an evening that celebrated the power of storytelling and personal expression.

Katha a festival of monologues
“Katha” a festival of monologues was presented by our fresh batch of workshop participants ; supported by some experienced members of our family. Katha comprised of a curtain raiser and 12 monologues which were beautifully presented by the team. The crew took the audience on a beautiful journey depicting a wide array of emotions through their amazing monologues.

An innovative product of the social distancing necessity of our times, Natyadarpan Theatre Academy is proud to present “Sadras Café”, a live, online Hindi play.
Co-written by Melbourne (Australia) based Saurabh Mishra & Prajakta Kale and directed by Saurabh Mishra, the play is a farce comedy centred around Malthi Iyer and her eccentric assistants at a South Indian café and catering business in Mumbai. Throw in a suspicious couple, some theatrical police, a quintessential comedic “straight guy” and a surprise guest, and you have the makings of hilarious chaos. Sadras Café is inspired by the iconic farce of Abbott & Costello and Fawlty Towers, and enacted by a cast of Melbourne based amateur actors.When: Saturday 30th May 2020, 5-6pm AEST (12.30-1.30 pm IST)

“Hukm Ki Rani” is based on passive aggression experienced in families. Nandini is obsessed with controlling everyone in the house. Nandini’s family has adapted to her nature but Payal (sister-in-law) can see a problem in this and wishes for a normal relationship with her brother’s family.

Shahzada
“Shahzada” is a fictional story of a young starry-eyed boy – Gutli, that resides next to railway tracks in a hovel. Under the influence of his friend and innocence, he learns that walking straight on the tracks, without falling down, leads to humanity. He accepts this challenge and wishes to prove the world, that one day he will be a winner, walking on the right path, the path of humanity. Apart from continuous approaching passenger trains, he encounters uninvited events and people that disturb his training. This drama depicts day-to-day challenges faced by the urban poor in Mumbai.

Bandhi is a story of a woman who is metaphorically trapped between the desires and responsibilities in her house. Rekha has resigned herself to the four walls of her home, her life. But that doesn’t stop her from hoping that things would be different and maybe Vishal (husband) could pull her out of the confines of this jail, at least for a weekend. She’s not a bad daughter-in-law; just a tired one.

Naagmandal
In October 2016, Natyadarpan made its debut in the theater world with a mesmerizing production of ‘Nagamandal,’ a play written by the acclaimed playwright Dr. Girish Karnad and directed by Mandar Vaidya. This inaugural production marked a significant milestone for the Natyadarpan team.
The story of ‘Nagamandal’ revolved around the newly married Rani, who found herself in a distressing situation due to her unfaithful and neglectful husband, Appanna. However, her life took a fascinating turn when a snake fell in love with her and assumed the form of Appanna to be with her. This intriguing narrative explored themes of love, transformation, and the complexities of human relationships.
The production of ‘Nagamandal’ was a grand affair, involving over 25 talented performers and a dedicated crew of 20 members. It showcased the Natyadarpan team’s commitment to delivering high-quality theater and their passion for storytelling. This first production set the stage for the future successes and endeavors of Natyadarpan in the world of theater.
